Almost 12 kilometres of Atlantic beach and an excellent climate during the whole year, makes Chipiona an important resort on the northwest coast of the province of Cadiz. Its history goes back to the Romans. Chipiona thanks its name to Quinto Servilius Ceipión, who built the highest lighthouse in Spain at the mouth of the river Guadalquivir in the year 40 B.C. Nowadays it can be seen as the symbol of the village. Every year several beaches of this picturesque coastal village, receive the "European Blue Flag" which stands for clean beaches and healthy seawater.
One of its popular events is Carnival, celebrated at the end of February and filling the streets of this beautiful village with colours and music. The Doñana National Park, one of Europe's most important wetlands covers 507 square kilometres and is home to a great variety of birds and one of the last refuges for endangered species as The Lynx and the Spanisch Imperial Eagle. Doñana was made a national park in 1969.
